Project ideas wanted: together against invasive species

The current distribution of the Japanese beetle clearly shows the impact that the introduction of an invasive (alien) species can have on native species and habitats (list not exhaustive):

  • Threat to local species diversity as invasive species become food competitors or predators of native species.
  • Disturbance of the balance of a habitat, as invasive species usually have no natural enemies or control mechanisms. As a result, they can proliferate uncontrollably and deplete resources such as food.
  • Alteration or destruction of habitats, as invasive species displace native vegetation or change soil conditions, among other things.

Controlling invasive species (neophytes and neozoa) is essential to protecting native species and their habitats. Somaha Foundation is therefore looking for innovative and specific project ideas to prevent and combat invasive species and to raise awareness about the issue.

Do you have a specific idea? Then contact Somaha Foundation (naturschutz@somaha-stiftung.ch). We are looking forward to your proposal.
