Experience wildlife in the living night

Verein StadtNatur is committed to promoting wildlife and biodiversity in urban areas. The nationwide Living Night project, supported by Somaha Foundation, uses reporting platforms to raise awareness of crepuscular and nocturnal wildlife and the ecological impact of artificial light at night.

Roads and buildings such as churches or historic bridges in residential areas are often brightly lit, which significantly disturbs the habitat of nocturnal animals. The issue of light pollution is still relatively unknown to the public. There is therefore a considerable need to raise awareness.

The Living Night project extends the Wilde Nachbarn, Nous voisins sauvages and StadtWildTiere reporting platforms launched by Verein StadtNatur in 2013. These platforms offer citizens the opportunity to report wildlife observations in settlements, to participate in scientific projects on wildlife in urban areas and to learn about ways to promote wildlife in their neighborhood. A photo competition on the reporting platforms and events on the International Earth Night (15.09.2024) will make the topic Living Night tangible. The aim is for citizens to experience nocturnal animals, raise public awareness and inform about conservation measures.
