Localization: Terre des hommes’ situation analysis

As part of its 2021-2024 strategy, Terre des hommes (Tdh) is creating an institutionalized framework to develop its partnership and localization approach: As a first step, Tdh carried out a situation analysis to assess existing partnerships with its local and national partners and to gain a deeper understanding of the nature of the relationship. This analysis served as the basis for Tdh's new partnership and localization policy.

The situation analysis is based on a wide range of data collected through questionnaires with local partners and Tdh country directors, interviews with localization experts, workshops in the pilot countries (Albania, Bangladesh, Hungary and Nepal) and existing literature. This analysis will enable Tdh to identify existing challenges and needs in its partnerships and to refocus its role in order to improve collaboration and the effectiveness of its services.

Tdh's self-evaluation identified among others the following needs:

  • to move from short-term partnerships to more equitable and strategic partnerships,
  • to develop clear and standardized partnership guidelines,
  • to create more opportunities for dialogue within partnerships,
  • to systematize capacity building for all partners, and
  • to involve partners consistently and strategically in fundraising and organizational development.

Through this systematic analysis, Tdh has gained valuable insights for the development and implementation of its partnership and localization policy.
