Project ideas wanted: together for Biodiversity Promotion Areas

Somaha Foundation is looking for innovative and specific project ideas for Biodiversity Promotion Areas.

Biodiversity is declining worldwide. Among other things, this is due to intensive agricultural use and increasing urban sprawl, which significantly restricts the habitats of plants and animals. Biodiversity Promotion Areas play a central role in the promotion and conservation of biodiversity.

Agroscope has studied the impact of Biodiversity Promotion Areas on biodiversity in more detail and has gained important insights:

  • Conservation and promotion of plant biodiversity can be achieved by maximizing Biodiversity Promotion Areas.
  • Increase in biodiversity of mobile organisms (e.g. butterflies and breeding birds), requires creation of Biodiversity Promotion Areas as part of connectivity projects, which aim to connect different areas and thus create corridors or networks of habitats.

Ultimately, biodiversity-friendly management and targeted networking of Biodiversity Promotion Areas are crucial for the promotion of biodiversity and its dispersal potential in Switzerland. Therefore, Somaha Foundation is looking for young organizations that would like to implement innovative and specific project ideas for the networking of Biodiversity Promotion Areas.
